EDF Action Votes Congratulates New Mexico State Legislative Candidates on Victories

ALBUQUERQUE, June 5, 2024 – Last night, New Mexico voters elected pro-conservation candidates over those backed by Big Polluters. Voters sent a strong message by electing a slate of powerful women who are willing to stand up to special interests and fight for clean air and clean water. Their victories will ensure that conservation is a top priority in the New Mexico Legislature.

“We are proud of our long record of supporting pro-conservation candidates in New Mexico,” said Anabel Maldonado, director of political programs for the Southwest at EDF Action. “New Mexicans are rightly proud of their natural heritage, and we are proud to stand with candidates who won’t buckle to special interest pressure in the Roundhouse. We congratulate Angel Charley (SD30), Heather Berghmans (SD15), Michelle ‘Paulene’ Abeyta (HD69), and Representative Angelica Rubio (HD35) on their victories and look forward to continued climate progress for all New Mexicans.”

EDF Action Votes ran a 5-figure direct mail program in support of Representative Angelica Rubio, as well as Angel Charley, Heather Berghmans and Michele “Paulene” Abeyta. EDF Action and EDF Action Votes have been active in the state since 2018, investing more than $1.5 million in state and federal politics in New Mexico.
