WASHINGTON, DC, March 5, 2025 – “We are saddened by the news that Congressman Sylvester Turner has passed away. EDF Action was always encouraged by Congressman Turner’s commitment to help every community thrive in a healthy environment.
“Before his tenure in Congress, he represented Houston as national co-chair of the bipartisan Climate Mayors. As a two-term mayor of the world’s energy capital, Turner guided the city through Hurricane Harvey, one of the most destructive natural disasters in U.S. history, oversaw the city’s first plan to reduce the pollution that made the storm more severe, and coordinated billion-dollar efforts to rebuild physical infrastructure and social resilience.
